We made the craziest happy faces when we needle felted trivets. We used thick felt board as a base. I cut it to a circle shape, using a pot to draw around. Then we needle felted small circles of coloured wool into the base with a special needle. The needle pushes the wool fibres down into the felt, the more you push the needle, the better it gets stuck.
You need to have a special foam cushion under the base, to prevent the needle to go into the table and break. Even having that, we broke a needle when felting, as the needle needs to go up and down straight, which can be a bit tricky for children. You can felt the wool into shape while you are pushing the needle, it really is a pretty amazing technique.
I do not know if there will be anybody else that finds these pretty, but I can not help smiling everytime I see them! Maybe they will get to be Christmas gifts after all?

  3. I LOVE these. So fun! I am in the United States, and am not sure what a felt board is. Can you explain it a bit? Thanks! And Happy Holidays! Beth

  4. Anonymous: It is 0,5 cm thick wool felt in dimensions 30 x 50 cm, that I got at a crafting store. It is steady and you can get it in many colours, Wool is heat proof, perfect for trivets.
